About

I am a composer...

            I am a performer...

                        I am a sound artist...

I create music, I create performance art, and I create everything in between. I often construct my music around systems...

            systems of interaction...

                        systems of creation...

                                    systems of destruction...

I like to include interactive elements outside of the musical realm in my work. I find that incorporating extramusical concepts provides the audience with an entirely unique set of expectations that can transcend the sphere of typical concert setting. Simple and easily recognizable visuals are the kinds of tools I like to use to accomplish this goal.

I use my background in mathematics and computer science to explore what I call "communication music" which focuses on constructing music out of complex systems of interaction between performers. These pieces are frequently built around multiplayer games but are also sometimes formed entirely around original systems of communication created by myself. Just like in music, I believe that games and other systems of interaction can tell complex and interesting stories. In many of my recent works, I aim to translate these stories onto the musical landscape.

I often perform in my own pieces...

                        as a percussionist...

                                    as a laptopist...

                                                as an actor...

                                                            as other things...

My favorite part of composing is working with fellow performers and composers where I can engage with other creative minds to make something exciting to perform. I have recently collaborated artists and organizations including Sebastian Suarez-Solis, Ben Giroux, Ensemble Dal Niente, Nadia Sirota, the Neave Trio, the Peabody Symphony Orchestra, the Piedmont Duo, Popebama, and the Schuler School of Fine Arts. I am a cofounder of both the DEX Digital Sample Library and Critical Error Ensemble. I am also the creator of the Compose on the Clock Festival at the Peabody Institute.

In 2020, I completed my undergraduate studies at the University of Virginia, graduating with a BA in Music and a BA in Mathematics with a minor in Computer Science. In 2023 I received my Master's in Composition under the guidance of Oscar Bettison, Felipe Lara, and Sky Macklay at the Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University.
